Homework
There is abundant evidence that high-quality homework can have a major impact on student progress. The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) suggests that “homework has a positive impact on average (+5 months), particularly with pupils in secondary schools” (EEF 2018). In addition, Cooper et al. argue that homework is beneficial “especially in the areas of reinforcing classroom learning and fostering academic achievement” (Cooper et al., 2006).
As such, we expect every student to complete homework along the following guidelines -
KS3 - Core Subjects 30 mins per week, Non-core subjects (excluding PE and PSHE) - 30 mins per fortnight.
KS4 - All subjects 30 mins per week, excluding (PSHE, Core RE and Core PE)
Homework set will challenge students to use their learning from the class in order to complete the set tasks. Tasks will come in the form of a varied mix of online quizzing, creative work and written tasks.
Some additional points regarding homework:
- Details of all homework tasks will be given on Satchel One at the point that the homework is set. Please monitor your child's homework on Satchel One to help support them with completion. If you are unable to access Satchel One, please contact the school’s office.
- Students should receive feedback on their homework. This can be in the form of instant feedback from an online platform (e.g. in maths). High-quality homework will be rewarded by the issuing of merits and Golden Tickets.
- Homework does not have to be completed at home. A homework support session is currently available in the school library after school on a Thursday from 3:40 until 16:30.
