Enrichment Activities

Stowupland offers an extensive range of enhancement and enrichment activities.  All these opportunities have a common aim:  to stimulate  learning, broaden  horizons and develop social skills and cultural awareness.  Some activities operate as an        integral part of subject courses whilst others are part of an extra-curricular              programme running at lunchtime, after school and every Wednesday afternoon.

At Stowupland, sport is inclusive with everyone being encouraged to exercise regularly and develop a healthy lifestyle.  Numerous clubs and practices operate routinely     including cross-country and the fitness club.  The entire school also participates in the  annual Sports’ Day.

Art and Textiles, DT Workshop, Origami, Zumba and Christian Union are just a few of our many clubs.  A whole range of activities operates either at lunchtime,  after school on Tuesday evenings or Wednesday afternoons and all students are  encouraged to get involved.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is also available at Stowupland.  There are expeditions at Bronze and Silver levels and destinations include Norfolk, the New Forest and the Peak District.

Music and Drama

Musical activities feature prominently at Stowupland including instrumental lessons from peripatetic teachers, choirs, ensembles, rock and jazz bands.  Many students   extend their experiences through community performances at local churches and  venues such as the John Peel Centre and ‘The Mix’ in Stowmarket.

There are also “lighter” moments with talent shows, informal concerts and “Carols in the Concourse” – a seasonal celebration enjoyed by staff and students alike.      Stowupland has an excellent and well-deserved reputation for Drama.

Visits and Trips

Enhancement and enrichment also applies to lesson time.  Visits and trips serve both to consolidate and stimulate learning across a range of subjects.  Opportunities       include a variety of theatre and art gallery trips, Geography field work in Suffolk and Norfolk, History trips to Ickworth House and the Imperial War Museum, and even    Colchester Zoo for those studying Applied Science and Biology.  There are also         opportunities for foreign travel including Germany, Switzerland and Iceland.
